When to book IELTS?
Find flexible options for IELTS test dates at official test centres that are easily accessible. You can book your IELTS test up to 48 hours in advance, but we recommend booking much further in advance. This way, you will have more time to prepare for IELTS with free access to our most comprehensive prep tools,including free familiarisation tests. If plans change or you need more time to prepare, you can also change your IELTS test date for free up until 15 days before the test.
How to book IELTS?
You can book your IELTS test on the British Council website here. Start by selecting the type of test you want to take. You can take IELTS on computer or choose IELTS on computer with Writing on Paper. The task types, scoring and time allocation of the Writing section are the same whether you take it on computer or write on paper. Writing on Paper is available for both IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training.
Note the test fee next to your chosen test and then click through to follow the steps, which include choosing a test location and all available dates. You will be prompted to create a profile and complete your registration. You will now have access to our Test Taker Portal, which provides all the necessary information about your IELTS test as well as free access to IELTS Ready Premium, our most popular preparation tool worth $170.
Where will the IELTS test take place?
Your IELTS test will take place at an official British Council test centre, equipped with everything you need including headphones for the Listening Section. Our test centres are conveniently located in cities.
What will the IELTS experience be like?

When will IELTS test results be available?
We are committed to delivering fast results to help you meet application deadlines. You can expect to see your IELTS results on our Test Taker Portal 1-5 calendar days after taking the test.
How to get a better IELTS score?
The IELTS test consists of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking Sections. If you didn’t perform as well as you’d hoped to in one Section, you can repeat that Section with One Skill Retake.
